SmartElex VL53L5CX ToF Image Sensor
The SmartElex VL53L5CX ToF Image Sensor is a compact, high-performance ToF Image Sensor designed for precise short-range distance sensing and spatial awareness. Based on ST’s advanced VL53L5CX chipset, this 64 pixel Time-of-Flight (ToF) 4 meter ranging sensor combines a SPAD array, infrared filters, and diffractive optical elements (DOE) to deliver consistent and accurate ranging even under challenging ambient lighting and different cover glass materials.
It supports multizone distance measurements up to 4000 mm across all 64 zones with a wide 63° field-of-view, operating at up to 15 Hz. ST’s patented histogram algorithms enable reliable detection of multiple objects within the FoV while minimizing crosstalk beyond 60 cm.
This short range ToF sensor is ideal for applications like 3D room mapping, robotics obstacle detection, gesture recognition, IoT systems, laser-assisted autofocus, and AR/VR enhancements.
Note: The VL53L5CX is unique in that it requires firmware to be loaded via the I2C bus at power-on. Because this firmware is ~90k bytes, we recommend a microcontroller with enough storage to hold both the VL53L5CX firmware and your program code.
